How to heal oral surgery wounds quickly?

Oral surgery is usually an outpatient procedure that occurs in their dentist’s office. Depending on the type of pain relief used for your oral surgery, you may even be able to drive yourself home following your procedure. But just because oral surgery doesn’t require an overnight stay, doesn’t mean that you can skimp on your recovery period. It is important that you follow your oral surgeon’s post-surgery instructions to ensure proper healing and prevent any complications

Below is a list of things we recoommend to ensure quick healing of post surgery wounds:
Rest the day of your oral surgery. Your body needs to recover! If you’d like to lie down, keep your head propped with pillows to promote proper blood flow to your head and to reduce swelling of your mouth and face. Propping your head will also reduce excessive bleeding post oral surgery.

Apply Ice to Your Face
We recommend that you alternate icing for 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off directly to your face where you feel pain.

Take Your Meds As Instructed
Take your pain medication as soon as you are instructed to, even if you don’t yet feel pain.

Eat Soft Foods
After you have stopped bleeding from your oral surgery, you can eat soft foods.Make sure that you are only consuming liquids or soft foods for the first day or two after your oral surgery. Examples of soft foods include soups, yogurts, and mashed potatoes.

Maintain a Clean Mouth
Make sure you keep your mouth clean. While your oral surgeon will likely instruct you to not rinse your mouth for the first 24 hours following your oral surgery, he or she will likely tell you to do so on day two. We recommend to rinse your mouth out about four times a day with PeriActive mouthwash, especially after you have eaten, to remove any food debris from your mouth. We also recommend that you use it throughout the day when you feel pain and before you go to sleep.

PeriActive mouthwash is a natural mouthwash that uses plant botanicals to kill bacteria and reduce inflammation. PeriActive will help your oral sores heal faster. PeriActive contains three botanicals that work synergistically to reduce inflammation: Echinacea purpurea, Centella asiatica and Sambucus nigra. Echinacea purpurea and Centella asiatica reduce irritation and gingivitis. Sambucus nigra, in addition to reducing inflammation and gingivitis, is a gingival repair stimulator. These three products together promote healing allowing the gums to repair naturally.
